Henriette-Louise de Bourbon (born January 15, 1703 in Versailles , † September 19, 1772 in Beaumont-lès-Tours, today: Tours ) was a French princess, granddaughter of Louis XIV , Benedictine and abbess .

Life

Henriette Louise Marie Françoise Gabrielle de Bourbon was the seventh child of Louis III. de Bourbon, prince de Condé and his wife Louise Françoise de Bourbon , the legitimate daughter that Louis XIV had with Madame de Montespan . As the granddaughter of Louis XIV, Henriette Louise was entitled "Mademoiselle (later: Madame) de Vermandois". She grew up in Fontevraud Abbey and had the desire to become a nun from an early age. Therefore she refused to marry the young Louis XV. and entered the Benedictine Abbey of Beaumont-lès-Tours near Tours on January 14, 1727 . From 1733 until her death she was abbess of the monastery. From 1762 to 1769 she raised her great-niece Louise-Adélaïde de Bourbon-Condé in the monastery , who will always speak of her with the greatest admiration.
