The 1913 Liberty Head nickel is an American five cent coin .
The nickel was only produced in an extremely limited edition, making it one of the most valuable and well-known American numismatic coins. In 2005, a copy fetched more than 4 million US dollars at auction .
Importance of the subject
Libertas , the Roman goddess of freedom, is depicted on the obverse of the coin . She wears a crown and a laurel wreath. The reverse shows the Roman number V (5), the value of the coin. Furthermore, the Latin letter V should also be recognized, which symbolizes victory (victory sign ).
