Jam Zapolski contract

The Jam Zapolski Treaty was an armistice that was signed on January 15, 1582 in the village of Jam Zapolski near Novgorod between Poland-Lithuania under King Stephan Báthory and Tsarist Russia under Tsar Ivan IV . The armistice treaty came about with the assistance of the Jesuit Antonio Possevino .

The treaty committed both sides to a ten-year ceasefire and ended the Livonian War for the Baltic States when the Tsar gave up his claims on Livonia, which had been partially occupied since 1558, and the city of Polatsk .
