Götz Kauffmann

Götz Kauffmann (born January 15, 1949 in Vienna ; † January 26, 2010 there ) was an Austrian actor , cabaret artist and author.

Life

Götz Kauffmann, whose real name was Gottfried Maria Friedrich Marcellinus Kauffmann, was the son of the Viennese organ builder Johann M. Kauffmann and learned the trade of organ building from 1964 to 1968 . He completed his acting training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna until 1972 . Early engagements took him to the Salzburger Landestheater until 1977 , then to the Raimundtheater and the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna.

He became known to a wider public through television series such as Ein echter Wiener nicht unter (1975–1979), Mozart and Meisel (1987) and Kaisermühlen Blues (1992–1999), as well as roles in films. He participated in numerous national and international film productions, including the much acclaimed remake of Tales from the Vienna Woods (1979), in which he directed by Maximilian Schell to Oskar played, Please leave your man! (1993) directed by Reinhard Schwabenitzky with his wife Elfi Eschke , Wolfgang Böck and Helmut Griem and Echte Wiener - Die Sackbauer-Saga (2008).

In addition to his work as a film actor, he was also repeatedly on stage as a theater actor and with his own cabaret programs. In 1980 he was the founder of the consortium cabaret and in 1983 presented his first solo program Götz-Zitate . Since 1983 Kauffmann also gave speech lessons, one of his students was Gerald Pichowetz . He also lent his voice to commercials. Most recently he lived as a freelance artist in Vienna and repeatedly played leading roles at the Gloria Theater . He was awarded the Golden City Hall Man by the City of Vienna . He was an avowed supporter of Freemasonry .

In his autobiographical book Meine Abrechnung , published in 1999 . Between Kaisermühlen blues and drunkenness , he allows deep insights into his soul. In it he reported three failed marriages, depression and excessive alcohol. In 1992, Kauffmann went bankrupt with the operation of the night club "Fledermaus", in which Gerhard Bronner had performed for a long time . He had been suffering from severe diabetes for a long time .

Kauffmann celebrated his last birthday, scarred by his illnesses and emaciated, with his artist colleagues, his brother and his three children. He died at the age of 61 and was buried in the family grave (group K1, number 75) at the Baumgartner Friedhof in Vienna.
