- January 10 : The Babylonian army under Nebuchadnezzar II begins the siege of Jerusalem after King Zedekiah of Judah started an uprising against Babylonian supremacy the previous year.
- The siege of Jerusalem is briefly interrupted when Pharaoh Apries of Egypt intervenes on behalf of the Judeans. However, when he withdrew to Egypt, Nebuchadnezzar continued the siege.
- Dorians from Corfu and Corinth found Apollonia in the south of Illyria .
