Tomáš Galásek [ ˈtɔ̹maːʃ ˈgalaːsɛk ] (born January 15, 1973 in Frýdek-Místek ) is a Czech football coach . As a player, he was under contract in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Germany until 2012 and was the team captain of the Czech national team . Since September 2018 he has been assistant coach of the Czech national team.

Active career

The defensive midfielder's stations were Baník Ostrava , Willem II Tilburg and most recently Ajax Amsterdam . With Ajax, Galásek was twice national champion and twice cup winner in six years.

For the 2006/07 season he moved to the 1st Bundesliga for 1. FC Nürnberg for two years . In the 1-1 game at Alemannia Aachen , he scored his first Bundesliga goal. In its first year in Nuremberg, the team won the DFB Cup - the first title for the FCN since winning the German championship in the 1967/68 season.

After the departure of Raphael Schäfer to VfB Stuttgart Galásek was for the 2007/08 Season Team Captain . That season, he was the most competitive player for the club. In the end, the club was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. Galásek was the only one from Nuremberg without a contract for the second division, so his time at 1. FC Nuremberg was over.

In August 2008 Galásek went back to his first club, Baník Ostrava. In addition to 14 league appearances, he also played two games in the UEFA Cup, and left the team in December 2008 after six months. He followed the call of the coach Hans Meyer , who had already brought him to Nuremberg, and joined Borussia Mönchengladbach , the bottom of the Bundesliga table at the time. He completed 15 missions; the club held the class at the end of the season. Despite the announcement that he would end his active career, he moved to the Bayern league club FSV Erlangen-Bruck near Nuremberg on the last day of the transition period for the 2009/10 season . There he scored his first league goal on November 1, 2009 in the game against SpVgg Unterhaching II . In July 2012, he ended his career as a player.

National team

On March 8, 1995 Galásek ran in the 4-1 test match victory in Brno against Finland for the first time for the Czech national team . After another use in the same year, he did not run for the national team again until 1998. In the qualification for the European Championship 2000 in the Netherlands and Belgium Galásek came to a use, but was not appointed to the squad . The 3-0 friendly win in Drnovice u Vyškova against Switzerland on August 18, 1999 was his last international match for the time being, until he was back in the national team on June 2, 2001 in the 2-1 defeat in the World Cup qualifier in Copenhagen against Denmark was used. This game was one of Galásek's two appearances in qualifying, failing to make it to the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea .

In the following qualification for the 2004 European Championship in Portugal and the final round , Galásek was a regular player and eliminated with his team in the semifinals with a silver goal against Greece . Also in the 2006 World Cup in Germany Tomáš Galásek was one of eight missions in the preliminary round as well as an insert in the relegation to the Czech squad and came two appearances; The Czech Republic was eliminated as a secret favorite after the group stage. Two years later he was at the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland after nine starts in the qualification for the Czech squad . Career as a coach

During his active career, Galásek was assistant coach at FSV Erlangen-Bruck until the end of the 2011/12 season. In addition, until 2015 he coached the youth of the club in which his son played. From 2012 until he missed the qualification for participation in the 2014 World Cup , he was assistant coach of the Czech national team , and since 2013 he has been volunteer assistant coach for Schweinfurt 05 .

From June 19, 2015, Galásek was coach of the Bayern league team SpVgg SV Weiden as the successor to Christian Stadler, who took over the post of sports director. On October 18, 2016, he resigned prematurely from his post. In the 2017/18 season he was the coach of the A-youth of FSV Erlangen-Bruck.

Since September 18, 2018, Galásek has been assistant coach of the Czech national team under head coach Jaroslav Šilhavý .

Under the direction of sports director Robert Palikuća , he will also take on the role of assistant coach for the U17s at 1. FC Nürnberg from the 2019/20 season . With the opportunity to play a role at the club with which he won the DFB Cup in 2007 , a wish comes true for him .
