from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anna Maria Benz (born September 14, 1694 in Kirchheim unter Teck , † January 15, 1738 in Nuremberg ) was a German painter of the Württemberg baroque .

life and work

Anna was the fifth child of Anna Maria, geb. Bikler , and Johannes Benz , carpenter and councilor in Kirchheim. After the fire in Kirchheim, Johannes Benz was entrusted with carpentry work for the Martinskirche. He made the epitaphs in the choir (architecture) . Portraits of the chief bailiffs should be included in it.
At the age of 16 Anna Maria painted the portraits of Obervogt Welling von Vaihingen as well as of Obervogt Konrad Widerholt and his wife Armgard (Widerholtin) .

It can be assumed that Anna Maria Benz then received and carried out further portrait requests and painting orders.

Anna married the Austrian military cartographer Cyriak Blödner on April 20, 1717 . They had three children together: Sophie Jacobine Louysa (baptized February 8, 1718, died May 31, 1719), Cyriakus Christoph (baptized September 30, 1722, died August 10, 1728) and Albrecht Johannes (baptized June 24, 1725).

The map series "Theatrum Belli Rhenani" created by Cyriak Blödner was painted by Anna. The scientific cartographer Wilhelm Bonacker (1888–1969) describes Cyriak Blödner as an "excellent map maker" and the "Theatrum" is a "top achievement". He attests to his wife Anna being involved in the work. Cyriak died on December 30, 1732.

Anna married the art dealer Matthias Egger on June 4, 1737 and moved to Nuremberg with him. She died on January 15, 1738, giving birth to twin daughters, who died on the same day.
