Cyriak Blödner (sometimes also called Cyriacus Blödtner, Blodner, Blodtner, Pledner, Plettner, Plöttner and others) ( February 6, 1672 in Eisenberg near Gera - January 3, 1733 in Kirchheim unter Teck ) was a Württemberg engineer, officer and cartographer . His best-known work is the 20-sheet map series Theatrum Belli Rhenani , which he completed in 1714.

Blödner is first mentioned in 1703 by Ferdinand Bonaventura Count von Harrach (1637–1706). Blödner was first made public in 1724 by Eberhard David Hauber :

"The famous engineer and Lieutenant Colonel Bloedtner has drawn various excellent charts that belong here, but they have not been edited."

Hauber also mentions the Theatrum Belli , on which Blödner's employees worked for 20 years and he himself for three years.

Life

Cyriak Blödner was born on February 6, 1672 in Eisenberg near Gera, Thuringia. His parents are given as "Cyriak Plietner, self-employed butcher and Cyriak Plietner's wife". Nothing is known about stupid's childhood and youth. In 1704 he was mentioned as Cyriaco Pledner in bills of the Württemberg landscape capture , from 1705 the baptism of a third child stupid in Frankfurt am Main has been handed down. At that time he was with the army in Lauterburg. In 1711 he was used in a campaign in the Netherlands. In 1713 he was promoted to captain by the emperor and was involved in planning the defense of the Rhine during the War of Succession . In 1714 he completed his map series Theatrum Belli Rhenani on the Upper Rhine , which was completely renamed Theatrum Belli Rhenani; Wherein Der Röm: Kayserl: Mayst. und des Heyl .: Röm: Reiches Haubt Armée Feldzug ano 1713 . A little later, in 1715, he was sent to Transylvania as a cartographer . In 1716 he presented some of his maps in Vienna. From 1716 his residence in Kirchheim unter Teck, August 15, 1716, he was by the War Council for Quartermaster General Lieutenant promoted. In 1717 he was supposed to take part in the upcoming campaign in Sicily, which he refused and resigned from his position.

Marriages and children

Stupid was in his first marriage to Anna Margaretha, geb. Bernspieß (March 1673 - August 11, 1715) from Worms, married. From this marriage there were three children

  • Leopold Eberhard Christoph, baptized 1703 or 1704
  • Christoph (Christian) Friedrich, baptized August 25, 1705 in Frankfurt a. M.

After Anna Margaretha's death, Blödner married Anna Maria, born on April 20, 1717 in Nabern (Plochingen) . Benz . This marriage also had three children.

  • Sophie Jacobine Louysa, baptized February 8, 1718, died May 31, 1719
  • Cyriacus Christoph, baptized September 30, 1722, died August 10, 1728
  • Albertus (Albrecht) Johannes, baptized June 24, 1725

Works

Bonacker assigns Blödner at least 44 sets of cards, most of which consist of several sheets. Most of the maps have been preserved and are kept in various archives. In some cases, however, conclusions about other maps and plans can only be drawn from file notes or other documents.
