Arnold Heinrich Gaedeke (born November 4, 1844 in Königsberg , † October 7, 1892 in Dresden ) was a German historian.

Life

Gaedeke was a son of Friedrich Heinrich Gaedeke (1811–1895) and brother of Konrad Gaedeke . From 1864 he studied history and art history in Königsberg, Berlin, Heidelberg and Göttingen and received his doctorate in 1867 at Heidelberg University. After his habilitation in 1870, Gaedeke taught history as a private lecturer. He took part in the French war in the Rhenish Uhlan Regiment No. 7.

In 1874 he became an associate professor of history in Heidelberg and accepted a position at the Dresden Polytechnic , where he taught as a full professor of history from 1882 to 1892. Gaedeke died in Dresden in 1892 and was buried in the Johannisfriedhof .
