He finished 16th in slalom and in the combination as well as 24th in giant slalom and 38th in Super-G. After three FIS races , he started the World Cup for the first time at the end of August , but was not able to win any World Cup points. In the 2005 season he only competed in FIS races, in which he was in the top ten for the first time on July 2 in the slalom in Marbachegg , as well as the Junior World Championship in Nové Město na Moravě , where he was in the fastest 30 in all competitions and best result rank 21 achieved in combination.

At the Junior World Championship in 2006 , Gschwandtner's only result was 22nd place in the Super-G. In August and September of the same year he also took part in several World Cup races again and achieved the points for the first time. His best result was 17th place in the slalom of Sattel on August 26th, bringing him to 31st place overall in the 2006 season . In the 2007 season , on August 26th, Gschwandtner achieved his best World Cup result to date with tenth place in the second slalom in Sattel; the day before he had already taken twelfth place. Nevertheless, he was only able to improve insignificantly in the overall ranking compared to the previous year and he finished 28th. At the Junior World Championships in 2007 he was ninth in slalom, twelfth in giant slalom and 15th in the super combined. In the next season , Gschwandtner was able to place himself in the top ten several times in FIS races, but only twice in the top 20 in the World Cup, making him 27th in the overall ranking. He achieved good results at the 2008 Junior World Championships in Rieden, Switzerland . In the Super-G he was sixth at the same time as the Czech Lukáš Kolouch and seventh in the super combined. In the slalom he came in eighth place with his brother and in the giant slalom in eleventh place.

In the 2009 season, the Burgenlander was able to improve significantly in the World Cup. He came six times under the best 16, which he improved to 13th place in the final standings. He celebrated great successes at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Horní Lhota u Ostravy in the Czech Republic by winning the gold medal in the giant slalom and the bronze medal in the Super-G. In the slalom, he finished sixth, but he couldn't finish the super combination. In September 2009 Gschwandtner first took part in a world championship in the general class. In his hometown of Rettenbach he finished 16th in the Super-G, 19th in the giant slalom and 32nd in the super combined. In the slalom he was eliminated in the first round. In the 2010 season he only started at the FIS races in Rettenbach, which also counted as Austrian championships .
