Bad Tatzmannsdorf ( Tarcsafürdő in Hungarian , Tarča in Croatian ) is a municipality with 1620 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Burgenland in the Oberwart district in Austria and the largest health resort in Burgenland.

The municipality is located in southern Burgenland in the Oberwart district.

In 1971 the communities of Jormannsdorf and Sulzriegel were merged with Bad Tatzmannsdorf.

history

Like all of Burgenland, the place belonged to Hungary (German-West Hungary) until 1920/21 . Until 1750 the place was owned by various small aristocratic families and in that year it was acquired by the Batthyány Counts , who added it to their Bernstein rule.

Under the Batthyánys, the bathing establishment, first mentioned in 1620, was generously expanded. From 1889 also were Moor occur for mud baths used so that Tatzmannsdorf as "Hungarian Franzensbad was."

Since 1898 had due to the Magyarization of the government in Budapest of Hungarian name Tarcsafürdő be used. After the end of the First World War , after tough negotiations, German-West Hungary was awarded to Austria in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919. The place has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Burgenland since 1921 (see also the history of Burgenland ). In 1926 the health resort was given the title "Bad".

  • The open-air museum Bad Tatzmannsdorf with southern Burgenland buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries was opened in 1972.
  • The spa museum provides an overview of the development of the spa in Bad Tatzmannsdorf, the largest spa town in Burgenland, from 1620 to the present day. It opened in 1990.
  • A bread museum is located in the Gradwohl Kurkonditorei.
  • The Oberwart - Bad Tatzmannsdorf - Oberschützen railway line has been revitalized since summer 2005 by the non-profit association FROWOS - Friends of the Oberwart-Oberschützen railway line . In 2012, the association's operating license was withdrawn
  • The Roman Catholic parish church of Bad Tatzmannsdorf dedicated to St. John the Baptist was built in 1967/68 on the site of an older church from 1896.
  • Friedenskirche Bad Tatzmannsdorf : The Friedenskirche of the evangelical parish AB was built in 1968 according to the plans of the architects Charlotte and Karl Pfeiler .

Parish council

In addition to Mayor Gert Polster (SPÖ) and Vice Mayor Barbara Baldasti (ÖVP), the executive councils Heinz Gyaky (ÖVP), Jakob Riser (SPÖ) and Dietrich Wertz (FPÖ) are also members of the community board.

The municipal treasurer is Silke Kurz, head of the district. Dietrich Wertz (FPÖ) was elected to the environmental council.

mayor

Gert Polster (SPÖ) has been mayor since the 2017 election. After Ernst Karner (ÖVP), who had headed the municipality since 2002, announced that he would no longer run the election, all four parties represented in the municipal council put forward a candidate for the mayor's direct election on October 1, 2017, none of whom were in the first ballot could achieve a qualified majority. Gert Polster (SPÖ) received 41.30%, Barbara Baldasti (ÖVP) 29.26%, while Dietrich Wertz (FPÖ) with 16.76% and Petra Simon (List NOW) with 12.69% were eliminated. In the runoff election on October 29, 2017, Polster prevailed with 54.41% against Baldasti with 45.59%. In the constituent meeting of the municipal council, Baldasti was finally elected vice mayor.

Silke Kurz is in charge of the municipal office.
