Ruth Warrick (born June 29, 1916 in St. Joseph , Missouri , USA , † January 15, 2005 in New York City ) was an American actress .

Live and act

Warrick began her career as a radio singer, but her breakthrough came with a supporting role in Orson Welles ' classic Citizen Kane . Here she played the first wife of the title character, who is betrayed by her husband and then gets divorced. In the following years she played among other things in blood revenge (1941) next to Douglas Fairbanks junior and again under the direction of Welles in the thriller Hunted by agents (1943). Warrick's big breakthrough in the film business was not to be achieved. In the 1950s she turned to television . She increasingly took on roles in various series and soap operas . From 1956 to 1960 she played the role of Edith Hughes Frey in the soap opera As the World Turns , in the 1960s she played a total of 88 episodes of the television series Peyton Place . In contrast, Warrick was rarely seen in films.

In 1970 she took on a role in the television series All My Children , which became a huge success. She received several Emmy awards for her portrayal of high society lady Phoebe Tyler Wallingford . In the year she died, she had another guest appearance on All My Children . The actress received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and another Emmy in 2004 for her life's work. Ruth Warrick, who was married six times and had three children, died in 2005 at the age of 88 of complications from pneumonia.
