Pablo Ferro (born January 15, 1935 in Antilla , † November 16, 2018 in Sedona , Arizona ) was a film title designer ( motion design ) and cartoonist from Cuba . Pablo Ferro is best known for his film leaderboards for strips such as B. Men in Black , My Big Fat Greek Wedding - wedding in Greek or Good Will Hunting . Ferro is known in film circles as the "Pope of the film opening credits".

Life

Ferro was born in Antilla , Cuba in 1935 and emigrated to New York with his family as a teenager .

In his spare time, Ferro occupied himself with animation. He got his knowledge from books, e.g. B. Preston Blair . Ferro's career began as an illustrator for comics. In the 1950s he began working for the New York animation studios Academy Pictures and Elektra Studios . There he worked on commercials and met former Disney animator William Tytla , from whom he received animation lessons. He also worked with Stan Lee , the eventual founder of Marvel Comics , and they created a science fiction comic.

In 1964 he founded his own company under the name Pablo Ferro Films.

He created his first film credits for Stanley Kubrick's film Dr. Strange or: How I Learned to Love the Bomb . The opening credits for Uhrwerk Orange are also by Pablo Ferro.

He became famous through his collaboration with Kubrick and has since worked himself as a director, film editor, producer and, above all, as a lead designer.

Up to and including 2014 Ferro was involved in around 90 film productions in which he worked on the opening credits. In 1992 he directed a one-time feature film called Me Myself and I.

Ferro's trademarks are his collage-like combinations of several images in a frame and his handwritten titles. He was also one of the first to experiment with quick cutting sequences (quick cut technique). He uses both analog and digital tools for his work.

His work also shows a huge impact on the younger generation of title designers like Kyle Cooper .
