Lucry (2014)

Lucry (born January 15, 1990 in Berlin , bourgeois Luís-Florentino Cruz ) is a German-speaking rapper and music producer . The German with Cuban roots, who lives in Berlin, released his first single "AYAYAY" with a major company ( Sony BMG ) in the summer of 2006 after some underground releases. This single is the first German-language reggaetón release and in the 30th calendar week of 2006 it was the highest German-language entry into the German single charts. Lucry is currently active as a rapper and producer of the hip-hop formation Egoland, as well as a producer of various German-speaking rap artists.

Career

At the age of eleven, Lucry wrote his first texts and made his first appearances in Cuban pubs. At the age of twelve he was discovered by his future manager as the winner of a singing competition and signed with the major label Sony BMG. As a teenager, who had been active in the Berlin hip-hop scene for five years and performed with the " Brothers Keepers " and " Orishas ", Lucry worked with the producer Taan "DragonMan" Newjam, from which the album El Latino Alemán ( 2006) . The Berliner also worked on songs by Bow Wow , Nina Sky , Lil'John , B2K & P. Diddy , Beenie Man and Dante Thomas . He attended the Sophie-Scholl comprehensive school in the Schöneberg district of Berlin.

At the end of 2012, he founded the Egoland crew with the Berlin rappers Furious and Atzenkalle , who had already made a name for themselves in the scene at the rap battle tournament on Wednesday . Her first song, Taub , was released in December with Main Moe , also an artist who regularly appears on Rap on Wednesdays. On February 6th, Egoland released the second single, Wahr & Schön . On October 11, 2013, Egoland's first album Antination was released . This was followed by the EP Das Kleine Büro in February 2015 and their second album Migration in April 2015 .

Musical influences

In 2002, Lucry first came into contact with reggaetón during a stay in Cuba. When he came back to Germany, he said he immediately wanted to convince all friends of this "crazy mix of reggae , dancehall , hip-hop and Latin " , which was initially unknown . Reggaetón became known in Germany through hits like "Gasolina" ( Daddy Yankee ), "Loco" ( Pachanga ) and "Sientelo" ( Speedy feat. Lumidee ). Accordingly, at the beginning of his musical career, Lucry was still strongly influenced by the influences of South American rhythms and music, especially reggaetón, of which he is considered the first German-speaking interpreter. His musical horizons at that time, however, cannot be reduced solely to his relationship with reggaetón; the music of German rap artists such as Samy Deluxe , Afrob and Brothers Keepers had an equally strong effect on the young man from Berlin. His more recent productions reveal the influence of American trap , Berlin street rap and pompous orchestral music.

Cooperations

It was Lucry's producer Taan who, thanks to his contacts in New York, made the link to the reggaetón grandmaster SPK . Among other things, he was responsible for one of the most famous tracks of the genre: " Oye Mi Canto " featuring Daddy Yankee , NORE , Nina Sky , Gemstar and Big Mato , which entered the top 40 of the US charts in late summer 2004. Result of the transatlantic cooperation: SPK made a remix of the Lucry single "AYAYAY" and provided the piece with a guest feature by Big Mato. He has already recorded songs with hip-hop greats like Spax and Harris , and in 2005 he took to the stage at the Splash Festival.

Self-image and goals

Lucry sees his music as a German-Cuban cultural transfer. The teenager, who attends the European School in his hometown Berlin , writes his lyrics in German and Spanish, all his songs are recorded in German and Spanish. He wants to make his music known beyond Germany. It is also important to him to offer an alternative to the grim attitude that currently dominates the German hip-hop scene. In his words: "I want to show people that it is good to have a positive attitude. I want them to recognize what is possible and what can be achieved with positive energy" . According to his own statement, he has set himself the goal of helping the reggaetón sound popular among young Cubans with German lyrics to make a breakthrough in Germany.
