Antoni Edward Odyniec (born January 25, 1804 in Giejstuny , † January 15, 1885 in Warsaw ) was a Polish poet, playwright and translator.

Odyniec began studying law at the University of Vilnius in 1820 . There he met Adam Mickiewicz and, under his influence, joined the Polish Patriotic Filaret Association. After the tsarist authorities detained him for several months, his Pieśń Filaretów was created in 1824 . He lived in Warsaw until 1829, where he continued his studies and published two volumes of poetry ( Poezje ) in 1825-26 .

1829-30 he went on an educational trip through Europe with Mickiewicz, during which he visited Germany, Switzerland and Italy, took part in the celebration of Goethe's 80th birthday and met Zygmunt Krasiński . In 1831 he settled in Dresden. Here he worked on the translation of works by Walter Scott and Byron , was co-editor of the first volumes of the Biblioteka Klasyków polskich (Library of Polish Classics), which appeared from 1882 to 1909, and wrote articles for the journal Przyjaciel Ludu .

In 1837 Odyniec returned to Vilnius , where he worked on Glucksberg's Universal Encyclopedia, wrote for the courier Wileński and wrote the dramas Felicyta and Barbara Radziwiłłówna . From 1866 he lived in Warsaw and wrote here for the courier Warszawski . During this time he published Listy z podróży (1867–1878) and Wspomnienia z przeszłości opowiadane Deotymie (1879–1883).
