Edward Statkiewicz
Edward Statkiewicz (born January 15, 1921 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj , † March 10, 1970 in Breslau ) was a Polish violinist and music teacher.
Statkiewicz studied violin with Marek Bauer and Józef Zetner at the Lemberg Conservatory . From 1942–43 he was a member of the orchestra of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater, from 1943–44 he played in the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra. He also continued his studies at the Conservatory and took violin lessons from Irena Dubiska .
In 1945 he was initially a violinist at the Katowice Theater, and from 1946 in the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio . From 1950 he was a member and from 1953 to 1959 concertmaster of the Filharmonia Pomorska in Bydgoszcz. Between 1955 and 1959 he was also principal violinist in the orchestra's string quartet.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Statkiewicz has appeared in the USSR, the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Czechoslovakia, France, Norway, China, India and Egypt. He was one of the first in Poland to perform the violin concertos by Aram Chatschaturjan , Nikolai Petrowitsch Rakow , Frank Martin and Ludomir Różycki and Leonard Bernstein's Serenade for violin, chamber orchestra, harp and percussion in Poland. He recorded the violin concertos by Karol Lipiński and Robert Schumann on CD .
As a violin teacher, he taught at the State Music Universities of Sopot (1952–54 and 1959–60), Wroclaw (1957–70) and Poznan (1959–70). He also participated as a juror in several violin competitions. He was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Decoration of Honor of the City of Poznan.
