Gerd Peter Werner (born September 16, 1938 in Wernigerode ; † January 15, 2019 ) was a German politician . He was the second Schleswig-Holstein member of the Bundestag for the Greens .

Life

Werner lived on Sylt since 1967 and practiced as a naturopath . He was initially a member of the SPD until about 1973 and since 1970 in citizens' initiatives and since 1974 (in Westerland ) in environmentally-oriented voter initiatives. In 1978 Werner was one of the co-founders of the "Green List North Friesland " (GLNF), which successfully competed in his home district of North Friesland and on whose list he achieved a district council mandate. He was then involved in the founding of the Schleswig-Holstein Green List (GLSH) in 1979 and the subsequent founding of the Greens at federal level in 1980, so it had its roots in the more conservative Green List, which was one of the founding members of the federal party , but in the first few years after its founding, separated from the left-wing program and the state association of the party and competed against the Greens before it became part of the state association in 1982.

On April 16, 1985 Werner moved to the 10th Bundestag as part of the rotation for the retiring Walter Sauermilch . After his mandate in the Bundestag expired in 1987, Werner had no further ambitions for federal politics and was active in party and local politics on the island of Sylt until the end of his life: With his continued commitment, he earned nicknames like “Mr. Citizens 'Initiative ”, as he has been involved in practically all Sylt citizens' initiatives for decades. He attached particular importance to regular warnings against nuclear energy. In March 2011, after the Fukushima nuclear disaster , he initiated vigils on Sylt, which he headed until December 2018.
