Ludvík Frejka (born January 15, 1904 in Reichenberg , † December 3, 1952 in Prague ), until 1945 Ludwig Freund , was a communist , Czechoslovak politician and publicist .

Born as Ludwig Freund, the Sudeten German of Jewish origin accepted Czech citizenship after the end of the war in June 1945 and officially changed his name to Ludvík Frejka.

Life

Ludwig Freund came from a German-speaking Jewish family. From 1923 to 1927 he studied political economy in Berlin and London . As a member of the KPD , he headed the communist student group at the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg . During his student days in Berlin friend was closely with Johannes R. Becher friends

Since 1923 he was a member of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ). From 1927 to 1930 he worked as a functionary of this party in Northern Bohemia and from 1935 to 1938 was editor of the German KPD newspaper Die Rote Fahne . After the occupation of Czechoslovakia , he spent the years 1939 to 1945 in Great Britain , where he was initially interned. From 1941 to 1945 he was an economic advisor to the Czechoslovak government in exile .

After his return to Czechoslovakia, Freund was the economic advisor to the President of the Czechoslovak Republic from 1945 to 1952. Ludwig Freund was arrested in 1952 in connection with the Field affair and the Slansky trial , sentenced to death in a show trial before the newly established State Court and executed. In 1963 he was legally and politically rehabilitated.
