Stephan Templ
Stephan Templ (* 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian architect, journalist, publicist and exhibition curator.
Life
Stephan Templ studied architecture and is best known for his publications on modern architects and their buildings, as well as on Aryanizations . He writes as a freelancer for the features pages of the FAZ and NZZ as well as architecture magazines such as Casabella and architektur aktuell . He has also curated exhibitions on the history of Prague Modernism, including at ETH Zurich . Templ lives in Vienna and Prague.
In 2001 Stephan Templ and Tina Walzer wrote "Our Vienna: Aryanization in Austrian". In this book you can read a "topography of robbery" district by district. 80 Jewish-owned pharmacies, 74 cinemas, villas and shops, important buildings and landmarks of the city such as the Ferris wheel changed hands under the pressure of threats and violence.
Criminal conviction
On April 25, 2013 Templ was in connection with the proposed restitution of one-sixth of the sanatorium Fürth in Vienna's Josefstadt from the Regional Court of Vienna Criminal sentenced to three years of unconditional imprisonment for serious fraud. In the application, Templ had deceived the restitution authorities by pretending that his mother was the only daughter of a former owner couple, although there was another daughter of this couple, and thus ultimately carried out the offense of serious fraud. Templ's appeal against it was dismissed by the Supreme Court in March 2014 . On the other hand, his appeal against the amount of the sentence was successful in that the Higher Regional Court of Vienna reduced the amount of the sentence to one year unconditional and two years conditional imprisonment.
Templ announced that he would appeal the decision of the Supreme Court to the European Court of Human Rights .
The judgment led to international appeals for clemency, which were unsuccessful. Templ served his imprisonment from October 2015.
After an inspection of the files in December 2015, Templ's legal representative alleged that Templ had presented documents in the proceedings that revealed the existence of his aunt. In the application itself, however, Templ only stated his mother as the only offspring.
Templ was released after eight months in prison.
