James Lehman "Jim" Bowdoin (* 15. January 1904 in Coffee Springs , Alabama ; † 11. May 1969 in Mobile , Alabama) Nickname : Goofy , was a US American football player . He played as a guard in the National Football League (NFL), including with the Green Bay Packers .

Player career

College career

Jim Bowdoin studied at the University of Alabama and played American football there. In 1927 and 1928, his college honored him for his athletic achievements. With his team he won the American college football championship in 1925 and 1926 . The Alabama Crimson Tide had won all of their nine games in both years.

Curly Lambeau

Professional career

Bowdoin was hired by the Green Bay Packers in 1928, who were trained by Curly Lambeau . In 1929, Lambeau was able to strengthen his offense by signing John McNally . Bowdoin's job was to block McNally's way into the opposing end zone. The later members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame , Mike Michalske and Cal Hubbard , could also be tied to the team in the same year and Bowdoin won his first NFL championship with his team . In the next two years, the Packers were able to successfully defend their NFL championship title. Bowdoin joined the New York Giants trained by Steve Owen in 1932 , but moved to the Brooklyn Dodgers during the current season . In 1933 he was under contract with the Portsmouth Spartans for a year and ended his career with the Dodgers after the 1934 season.
