Daniel Caligiuri [ ˌkalɪˈdʒuri ] (born January 15, 1988 in Villingen-Schwenningen ) is a German-Italian football player . The midfielder has been under contract with FC Augsburg since July 2020 .

Daniel Caligiuri's older brother Marco Caligiuri (* 1984) is also a soccer player and is currently under contract with SpVgg Greuther Fürth .

Daniel Caligiuri played for four years in the youth team of SV Zimmer .
SC Freiburg (U19, amateurs and first team)
In the summer of 2005 he switched to the football school of SC Freiburg and was used for the U-19s of the SCF. Already during his junior years he played his first games for the club's second team, which played in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In 2008 he won the league title with SC Freiburg II and was promoted to the Regionalliga Süd .
He made his Bundesliga debut in the first team of SC Freiburg on November 7th, 2009, when he was on the starting line-up in the 2-1 away win against VfL Bochum . On February 10, 2012, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 3-2 draw against VfL Wolfsburg . Caligiuri became a regular player in the second half of 2012. He was also the regular penalty taker in the SC Freiburg team, converting every penalty kick.
VFL Wolfsburg
For the 2013/14 season Caligiuri moved within the league to VfL Wolfsburg . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2017.
FC Schalke 04
For the second half of the 2016/17 season , Caligiuri moved to FC Schalke 04 , where he received a contract that ran until June 30, 2020. He wears jersey number 18, sometimes number 2 in international competitions. He made his Bundesliga debut for Schalke 04 on January 27, 2017 in the 0-1 home defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt . On March 12th (24th matchday) Caligiuri scored his first goal for Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga with the 3-0 winner against FC Augsburg . He made his debut in the Europa League on February 16, 2017 in a 3-0 win over PAOK Thessaloniki .
FC Augsburg
At the end of June 2020, league rival FC Augsburg announced that Caligiuris, who signed a three-year contract, would be signed for the 2020/21 season .
National team
In May 2015, Caligiuri was nominated by coach Antonio Conte for the first time for a course for the Italian national team as part of the international matches against Croatia and Portugal , but was ultimately not included in the final squad for the two games.
