Abdus Samad Azad

Abdus Samad Azad (born January 15, 1926 in the village of Burakhali, Sunamganj District , British India , † April 27, 2005 in Chennai , Tamil Nadu , India ) was a Pakistani and Bangladeshi politician .

Samad Azad studied law and history at the University of Dhaka after 1948 . His political career began in 1940 when he joined the Muslim Students Federation . Since 1954 he was regularly represented in parliaments and was also imprisoned several times.

During the War of Independence in 1971, Samad Azad acted as the ambassador of Bangladesh and tried to win the international public for its independence. He became the first foreign minister of independent Bangladesh, later also minister of agriculture . For a long time he was one of the leading politicians in the Awami League , one of the major parties in Bangladesh.
