Inge Merkel
Inge Merkel , née Klauner, (born October 1, 1922 in Vienna , † January 15, 2006 in San Miguel de Allende , Mexico ) was an Austrian writer .
Life
Inge Merkel grew up in a civil servant household in Vienna . After graduating , she studied classical philology , history and German at the University of Vienna. In 1944 she received her doctorate with a thesis on ETA Hoffmann . She then worked as a research assistant at the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Vienna and from 1974 to 1984 as a Latin teacher, first at the Bundesrealgymnasium Waidhofen an der Ybbs, later at a Viennese grammar school .
At the age of around 60 - after retiring - Inge Merkel began to write. The novel The Other Face was published in 1982. The complete works include short stories and novels.

criticism
Merkel's literary rank is not without controversy despite the author's official awards. On the occasion of the new edition of The Great Spectacle in the Manesse Library of World Literature, Andreas Dorschel noted linguistic schematism in the work: “Even modest possibilities of literary design, such as the surprising coupling of adjectives and nouns, are hardly touched on. Merkel always falls for the most obvious. Movers are 'rough', caretakers are 'fat', events are 'spectacular'; Cunning is 'perfidious', culture 'occidental', the mind 'sober', sharpness also 'sober' and being together 'informal'. It is the coercive community of a capricious common sense, the noun and adjective so crammed together. "
