Alec G. Olson

Alec Gehard Olson (born September 11, 1930 in Mamre , Kandiyohi County , Minnesota ) is a former American politician . Between 1963 and 1967 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alec Olson attended public schools in his home country and then Willmar High School until 1948 . Between 1948 and 1955 he worked in agriculture. He then worked in the insurance industry until 1962. Politically, Olson became a member of the Democratic Party , which in Minnesota has been called the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party since a merger in 1944 .

Olson served as his party's district chairman for four years. In 1960, 1964 and 1968 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions . In the 1962 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth constituency of Minnesota , where he succeeded Fred Marshall on January 3, 1963 . After re-election in 1964, he was able to complete three consecutive terms in Congress until January 3, 1967 .

In the 1966 election, Olson was defeated by Republican John M. Zwach . In 1967, Olson worked for the Department of Agriculture for a brief period. He then worked for a private investment firm. He was a member of the Minnesota Senate from 1969 to 1976, and served as its president since 1973. Between 1976 and 1979, Olson was Lieutenant Governor's Deputy Governor Rudy Perpich . After that he did not hold any further political offices. Olson has been married to Janice Ruth Albrecht since 1957 and lives in Willmar .
