Archie H. Miller

Archie H. Miller (born June 8, 1886 in Hopkins , Minnesota , †  February 11, 1958 in Minneapolis , Minnesota) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1945 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

Archie Miller attended public schools in his home country. After studying law at the Minnesota College of Law and his admission to the bar, he began to work in this profession. In his youth he was a semi-professional baseball player and played the clarinet in the Hopkins Town Band. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In Hopkins, he served on the local council and school committee. Between 1931 and 1943 he was a member of the Minnesota Senate , where he was represented on several committees. In 1943 he held the office of President Pro Tempore of this chamber.

After the resignation of Governor Harold Stassen , Lieutenant Governor Edward John Thye succeeded him in the highest office of the state. According to the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, Archie Miller, took over the office of Vice-Governor on a provisional basis. He held this position between 1943 and 1945. He was Deputy Governor and official Chairman of the State Senate. He then belonged again to the Senate from 1945 until his death on February 11, 1958, where he temporarily served as Republican parliamentary group leader. In addition, he was again a member of numerous committees.
