Thomas H. Armstrong

Thomas Henry Armstrong (born February 6, 1829 in Milan , Ohio , †  December 29, 1891 in Albert Lea , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1866 and 1870 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

Thomas Armstrong attended Western Reserve College until 1854 . After studying law at the Cincinnati Law School and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. Later he also worked in the banking industry. From 1855 he lived in the High Forest Ward , Minnesota. In 1874 he moved on to Albert Lea. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party until 1861 , when he joined the Republicans . Between 1864 and 1865 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Minnesota ; In 1865 he succeeded Jared Benson as Speaker of this Chamber of Parliament. From 1875 to 1878 he was a member of the State Senate .

In 1865 Armstrong was elected lieutenant governor of Minnesota alongside William Rainey Marshall . He held this office between 1866 and 1870. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1873 he intended to run for governor. But he got out of this application before the nomination congress. Thomas Armstrong died in Albert Lea on December 29, 1891.
