Milan ( English pronunciation ˈmaɪlən ) is a village in the counties of Erie and Huron in the US state of Ohio . At the 2010 census, the parish had 1,367 inhabitants. Milan is located on the south bank of the Huron River .
In 1839 a canal was built to Lake Erie , which allowed Milan direct trade relations with the industrial centers on Lake Erie. The city of that time became known for its port and its shipyards for the construction of schooners for traffic on Lake Erie. After the construction of a railway network, the canal lost its importance and Milan's population decreased dramatically.
