Carol Molnau

Carol Molnau (born September 17, 1949 in Waconia , Minnesota ) is an American politician . She was lieutenant governor of Minnesota from 2003 to 2011 and temporarily headed the state's agency responsible for transportation .

Molnau graduated from the University of Minnesota . In 1992 she was elected a Republican to the Minnesota House of Representatives. She was a member of this for five terms or nine years. In 2002 she was elected Lieutenant Governor and thus Deputy Governor Tim Pawlenty . She took over this post from Mae Schunk . Molnau was re-elected in 2006; she left office in January 2011.

As a result of the collapse of the Interstate 35W Mississippi River Bridge on August 1, 2007, her work as the head of the Minnesota Department of Transportation came into public discussion. The members of the State Senate accused her of management errors and removed her from this position on February 28, 2008 with a two-thirds majority.

Molnau has been married since 1971 and has three daughters.
