Frank A. Day

Frank Arah Day (born September 30, 1855 in Attica , Green County , Wisconsin , †  December 27, 1928 in Winona , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1897 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

Frank Day grew up on a farm in Wisconsin. He came to Webster City , Iowa, at the age of 14 . From 1874 he was based in Fairmont (Minnesota). Professionally, he worked as a publisher and editor in the newspaper industry. Politically, he first became a member of the Republican Party . In 1884 he was a member of their state board for Minnesota; in June 1892 he participated as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis . In 1878 Day was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives; between 1887 and 1895 he was a member of the State Senate . He was a member of several committees in both chambers.

In 1894 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota at the side of David Marston Clough . He held this office between 1895 and 1897. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. During this time he fell out with the Republican Party on the currency issue. In 1896 he ran unsuccessfully for the Free Silver Republicans for the US House of Representatives . Then he became a member of the Democratic Party . In July 1904 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention ; between 1904 and 1908 he was the democratic chairman of the state. He sat again in the Minnesota Senate in 1927 and 1928. He died in Winona on December 27, 1928.
