Albert E. Rice

Albert E. Rice (born September 24, 1845 in Vinje , Norway , † September 11, 1921 in Rochester , Minnesota ) was an American banker, newspaper journalist and politician . He served as the 10th lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota. Rice, a member of the Republican Party , held this office from January 4, 1887 to January 5, 1891 under Governors Andrew Ryan McGill and William Rush Merriam .

Born in the Norwegian province of Telemark , Rice immigrated to the United States in 1860. During the Civil War he served in a Wisconsin regiment ; subsequently he settled in Willmar , Minnesota in 1866 . He later embarked on a political career and was a member of the Minnesota Senate from 1874 to 1875, 1878 to 1882, and 1883 to 1886 before he was elected lieutenant governor.
