Alphonso Barto

Alphonso Barto (born May 24, 1834 in Hinesburg , Vermont , †  November 4, 1899 in St. Cloud , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1874 and 1876 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

Alphonso Barto attended the public schools in his home country. After completing a law degree in Geneva ( Illinois ) and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He served in the meantime as a captain with a unit from Illinois. In 1869 he moved to Minnesota, where he was a chamberlain in Stearns County . He was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1872 and 1873 .

In 1873, Barto was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota alongside Cushman Kellogg Davis . He held this office between 1874 and 1876. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He died in St. Cloud on November 4, 1899.
