George H. Sullivan

George Henry Sullivan (born December 20, 1867 in Stillwater , Minnesota , †  February 15, 1935 in Mahtomedi , Minnesota) was an American politician . In 1916 and 1917 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

George Sullivan attended public schools in his home country. After studying law at the University of Wisconsin and being admitted to the bar in 1888, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He became a district attorney in Washington County . Between 1904 and 1906 he was a member of the state executive committee of his party; from 1907 to 1935 he sat with brief interruptions in the Senate of Minnesota , whose President Pro Tempore he was in 1916. During his time in the State Senate he was a member of several committees. In 1908 and 1916 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions .

After the death of Governor Winfield Scott Hammond , Lieutenant Governor Joseph AA Burnquist succeeded him. According to the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, George Sullivan, became acting lieutenant governor of Minnesota. He held this office in 1916 and 1917. He was Deputy Governor and official chairman of the State Senate. After serving as Lieutenant Governor, Sullivan continued to serve on the State Senate. He died in Mahtomedi on February 15, 1935.
