Yvonne Prettner Solon (born February 3, 1946 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American politician . She was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota from 2011 to 2015 .

Career

Yvonne Solon attended St. John's Elementary School and Stanbrook Hall Preparatory School in Duluth and then studied psychology at the University of Minnesota . She later worked as a psychologist for some time. Politically, she joined the Democratic Party , which in her state of Minnesota calls the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party . Between 1988 and 1999 she was a member of Duluth City Council; from 2002 to 2010 she was a member of the Minnesota Senate , where she served on several committees. Her work focused on health issues and energy policy.

In 2010, Solon was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, alongside Mark Dayton . She held this office for a term until January 2015. She was Deputy Governor . She has announced that she will not be available for another term of office. She left her position on January 5, 2015. She has two grown children with her husband, Sam George Solon, who died in December 2001.
