Konrad K. Solberg

Konrad Knute Solberg (born June 25, 1874 in Rushford , Fillmore County , Minnesota , † January 28, 1954 in Clarkfield , Minnesota) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1935 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

Konrad Solberg attended public schools in Yellow Medicine County , where he had moved with his parents around 1879. He then graduated from the Windom Institute and Minnesota Business College in Minneapolis . Later he worked as a farmer and in the banking industry. There he became Vice President of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank . He was also a director at the Clarkfield Telephone Company . Politically, he joined the Farmer-Labor Party of Minnesota , from which the present-day Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party emerged in 1944 . He became a member of the school board and mayor of Clarkfield. Between 1923 and 1930 he was a member of the Minnesota Senate , where he served on several committees.

In 1932, Solberg was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota alongside Floyd B. Olson . He held this office between 1933 and 1935. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1934 he ran unsuccessfully for the post of Secretary of State of Minnesota. He died in Clarkfield on January 28, 1954.
