Joanne Benson
Joanne E. Benson (born January 4, 1943 in Le Sueur , Minnesota ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 1999 she was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.
Career
After finishing school and studying at St. Cloud State University , Joanne Benson started teaching. At the same time, she embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1991 and 1994 she was a member of the Minnesota Senate , where she served on various committees. Her work as a state senator focused on education, the environment, health issues and trade.
In 1994, Benson was elected lieutenant governor of Minnesota alongside Arne Carlson . She held this office between 1995 and 1999. She was Deputy Governor . In 1998 she failed her party's gubernatorial election. Between 1999 and 2005, she served as the Chief Education Officer for the Minnesota Business Academy . She is married and has two children.
