William B. Richardson

William Burdette Richardson (born November 10, 1874 in Rochester , Minnesota , †  September 19, 1945 there ) was an American politician . In 1936 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

William Richardson attended public schools in his home country including Rochester High School . After studying law at the University of Minnesota and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1911 to 1917 he was mayor of his hometown Rochester. From 1927 to 1945 he was a member of the Minnesota Senate . There he sat on several committees. In 1935 he became the Executive President of that Chamber as President Pro Tempore .

After the death of Governor Floyd B. Olson , Lieutenant Governor Hjalmar Petersen succeeded him in the highest office of the state. According to the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, William Richardson, took over the vacant position of Vice Governor on a provisional basis. He held this office between August 24, 1936 and January 1, 1937. It is remarkable that - for unknown reasons - he was never officially introduced to this office. He died on September 19, 1945 in Rochester, the city of his birth.
