James B. Goetz

James Burton Goetz (born May 28, 1936 in Freeport , Illinois ) is an American politician . Between 1967 and 1971 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota .

Career

James Goetz worked in the radio industry and ran the Winona- based station KAGE . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1964 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention .

In 1966, Goetz was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota alongside Harold LeVander . He held this office between 1967 and 1971. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Until 1972, all of Minnesota's lieutenant governors were also Senate presidents. After Goetz's term of office, this practice was changed by an amendment to the state constitution: the personal union between the Vice-Governor and the Senate President was abolished. Since then, the state senators have been electing their own president. After his time as Vice Governor, James Goetz did not appear politically. He is married to Ruth Elbert.
