Edward Everett Smith

Edward Everett Smith (born May 5, 1861 in Spring Valley , Minnesota , †  July 29, 1931 in Minneapolis , Minnesota) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he was acting lieutenant governor of the state of Minnesota.

Career

Edward Smith began working in the profession after studying law and being admitted to the bar. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1895 and 1898 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Minnesota ; from 1899 to 1910 he was a member of the State Senate . In 1909 he was President Pro Tempore its executive chairman. He was a member of several committees in both houses.

After the death of Governor John Albert Johnson, his lieutenant governor Adolph Olson Eberhart was promoted to the highest office in Minnesota. According to the state constitution, the President Pro Tempore of the State Senate, Edward Smith, took over the role of vice governor on a temporary basis. He held this office between 1909 and 1911. In 1916 he was a substitute delegate to the Republican National Convention . Smith later served as an adviser to Governor JAO Preus . He also advised some US Republican presidents. He died in Minneapolis on July 29, 1931.
