Haldor Erickson Boen (born January 2, 1851 in Sør-Aurdal , Valdres , Norway , † July 23, 1912 in the Aurdal Township , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1868, Haldor Boen came to the United States, where he settled in Mower County , Minnesota. In 1869 and 1870 he attended St. Cloud Normal School . He then moved to the vicinity of Fergus Falls in Otter Tail County . From 1872 he was employed by the auditor of this district as a tax officer. Between 1874 and 1879 he also taught there as a teacher. From 1875 to 1900 Boen also exercised the office of justice of the peace. In 1880 he became a County Commissioner . From 1888 to 1892 he was a land registry clerk in his district.

Politically, Boen was a member of the short-lived Populist Party . In the congressional election of 1892 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then newly created seventh constituency of Minnesota . There he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1893. Since he lost in the elections of 1894 to the Republican Frank Eddy , Boen could only complete one term in Congress until March 3, 1895 .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Boen became editor of the Fergus Falls Globe newspaper. He also worked in agriculture in Otter Tail County. Haldor Boen died on July 23, 1912 in Aurdal Township near Fergus Falls.
