Mark Raymond Kennedy (born April 11, 1957 in Benson , Minnesota ) is an American politician . Between 2001 and 2007 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mark Kennedy attended Saint John's University in Collegeville until 1979 . He then studied at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor until 1983 . Kennedy then worked for various companies in the financial sector. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the 2000 congressional election , Kennedy was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Minnesota , where he succeeded David Minge on January 3, 2001 . Until January 3, 2003, he represented this district in Congress for only one legislative period . After the 2002 elections he represented the sixth district of his home state there until January 3, 2007 as the successor to Bill Luther .

In 2006, Kennedy decided not to run for the US House of Representatives again. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . In 2007 he became a member of a President's Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiation . In 2008, Kennedy was a co-founder of the Economic Club of Minnesota . Today he works for a global consulting and technology company. Mark Kennedy is married and lives in Watertown . He has been President of the University of North Dakota since July 1, 2016 .
