Frank Nye
Frank Mellen Nye (born March 7, 1852 in Shirley , Piscataquis County , Maine , † November 29, 1935 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1913 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In 1855, Frank Nye and his parents moved to a farm in Pierce County , Wisconsin . He attended public schools in his new home including the Academy in River Falls . In the following years Nye worked as a teacher. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1878, he began to practice in Hudson in his new profession. Between 1879 and 1884 he was a district attorney in Polk County .
Politically, Nye was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1884 and 1885 . In 1886, Nye moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. There he continued his legal practice. Between 1893 and 1897, he was the district attorney in Hennepin County , having previously served as the assistant prosecutor in that district for several years. In Minnesota, Nye also continued his political career.
In the congressional election of 1906 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Minnesota , where he succeeded Loren Fletcher on March 4, 1907 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1913 . In 1912 he declined to run again. After his tenure in the House of Representatives, Nye returned to work as a lawyer. In 1920 he became a district judge in Hennepin County. He held this office until 1932; then he retired. Frank Nye died in Minneapolis on November 29, 1935 and was buried in River Falls.
