Ole J. Kvale

Ole Juulson Kvale (born February 6, 1869 in Decorah , Winneshiek County , Iowa , †  September 11, 1929 near Otter Tail Lake , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1929 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ole Kvale attended public schools in his home country. From 1883 to 1890 he attended Luther College in Decorah. This was followed by a degree in theology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis . In 1894, Kvale was ordained a Lutheran minister. Between 1894 and 1917 he practiced this profession in Orfordville ( Wisconsin ). In the meantime, he earned a Master of Arts degree from the University of Chicago in 1914 . Between 1917 and 1922 he was a pastor in Benson, Minnesota .

In 1920, Kvale ran unsuccessfully for Congress as an independent Republican . Then he joined the Minnesota-strong Farmer Labor Party . In the 1922 congressional elections he was elected as their candidate in the seventh constituency of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Andrew Volstead on March 4, 1923 . After he was confirmed in his mandate in the following congressional elections, he could remain in the US House of Representatives until his death on September 11, 1929. After a by-election, his mandate fell to his son Paul .
