John G. Alexander (1940)

John Grant Alexander (born July 16, 1893 in Texas Valley , Cortland County , New York , †  December 8, 1971 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1941 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Alexander attended the public schools in his homeland. After a subsequent law degree at Cornell University in Ithaca and his admission as a lawyer in 1916, he began in Lynd (Minnesota) in 1917 to work in his new profession. During the First World War , Alexander was a soldier in an ambulance unit of the US Army .

Alexander was also active in the banking industry between 1917 and 1923. He then got into the insurance and real estate business in Minneapolis. He was also a member of the Minnesota National Guard from 1927 to 1937 . Politically, Alexander became a member of the Republican Party . In 1938 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Minnesota , where he succeeded Henry Teigan on January 3, 1939 , whom he had defeated in the election. Since he was no longer nominated by his party for the elections in 1940, he could only complete one legislative term in Congress until January 3, 1941 .

In 1942, John Alexander ran unsuccessfully as an independent candidate for the office of governor of Minnesota. In the following years he worked again in the insurance and real estate industry. John Alexander died on December 8, 1971 in Minneapolis and was buried there.
