Arlen Ingolf Erdahl (born February 27, 1931 in Blue Earth , Minnesota ) is a former American politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Arlen Erdahl attended public schools in his home country and then, until 1953, St. Olaf College in Northfield . Between 1954 and 1956 he was a soldier in the US Army . He later studied at Harvard University until 1966 . Erdahl also worked as a farmer at the time. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party , whose regional congresses in Minnesota he attended as a delegate in 1963 and 1964. Between 1963 and 1970 he was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives . From 1970 to 1974, he was Secretary of State, the executive officer of the Minnesota state government. From 1975 to 1978 Erdahl was a member of the public service commission of his state.

In the 1978 congressional election, Erdahl was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Minnesota , where he succeeded Al Quie on January 3, 1979 . After re-election in 1980, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1983 . He was not confirmed in the 1982 elections. Between 1983 and 1989 he worked for the Peace Corps . First he headed its department in Jamaica , then he moved up to the board of directors as associate director. Between 1989 and 1993 Erdahl worked for the Federal Ministry of Energy . He and his wife Syrdal have six children. Erdahl spends his old age in Burnsville .
