Blue Earth is a city in the US state of Minnesota with around 3,600 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of Faribault County .
geography
Blue Earth is centrally located in southern Minnesota. The border with Iowa runs around 15 kilometers south . According to the United States Census Bureau , the city covers an area of 8.2 square kilometers.
history
Blue Earth was founded in 1856. It got its name from the Blue Earth River . Due to the naturally black clay on the river bank, it was given the Indian name Mahkota (which means blue earth ), which was later used as the name of the city.

According to the 2000 census, there are 3,621 people in 1,535 households and 925 families in Blue Earth. Ethnically, the population is made up of over 96 percent white population and a Spanish or Latin American minority.
Children under the age of 18 live in 27.6% of the 1,535 households, married couples in 49.8%, female singles in 7.9% and 39.7% are not family households. 36.3% of all households consist exclusively of a single person and 20.7% have single people over 65 years of age.
