Winnebago is a city in Faribault County . It is centrally located in southern Minnesota and has a population of around 1500.

Geographical location
Winnebago is located in the US state of Minnesota in the Midwestern United States. The Iowa border runs about 30 kilometers south . According to the United States Census Bureau , the area of the city is 5.7 square kilometers. Larger cities in the vicinity are Blue Earth and Fairmont . Mankato is further north .
climate
Winnebago has the typical continental climate of Minnesota . Summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold with little rainfall. The maximum daily temperature is below zero degrees Celsius on an average of 82 days a year. The annual snowfall is 116 centimeters.

history
The origins of Winnebago go back to the 1850s. In October 1856 a group of young people set out along the Blue Earth River in search of a suitable and uninhabited place to settle . Led by Andrew C. Dunn, they settled on the site of the current city. This was named after the Winnebago Indians, whose reservation was in the adjacent Blue Earth County between 1855 and 1863 . The name City was now used to differentiate it from the Indian settlement, but was abandoned in 1905.
In 1861 Winnebago had a population of over 100 people who lived in the small village. By 1870 the population grew to 1106 people.

According to the 2000 census , Winnebago has 1,487 people in 641 households and 398 families. Racially, the population is made up of 96.3 percent white population and smaller minorities. 6.6 percent of the population are Hispanics .
Children under the age of 18 live in 25.4% of the 641 households, married couples in 52.4%, singles in 7.5%, and 37.9% are not family households. 34.2% of all households are made up entirely of a single person, and 20.0% have single people over 65 years of age. The average household size is 2.21 people, that of families 2.83.
In relation to the entire city, the population is made up of 21.0% residents under 18 years, 7.5% between 18 and 24 years, 22.8% between 25 and 44 years, 21.3% between 45 and 64 years 27.3% over 65 years. The median is 44 years. About 52.1% of the population is female.
The median income of a household is USD 32,321 and that of a family is USD 41,420. The per capita income is $ 16,435. About 9.5% of the population and 4.6% of families live below the poverty line.

Major roads through Winnebago are US Highway 169 , which runs north-south through the city, and Minnesota State Route 109 , which begins in Winnebago and heads east. Further south of the city is Interstate 90, a major transportation route in the United States.
The Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway built the railway line between Omaha and Minneapolis through Winnebago and set up a train station there.
