Gil Gutknecht

Gilbert William "Gil" Gutknecht (born March 20, 1951 in Cedar Falls , Black Hawk County , Iowa ) is an American politician . Between 1995 and 2007 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gil Gutknecht studied after high school until 1973 at the University of Northern Iowa . He later attended the World Wide College of Auctioneering , also in Iowa, until 1978 . Gutknecht was active in trade and real estate. Since 1979 he has also organized house auctions.

Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1982 and 1994 he was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives . In the 1994 congressional election he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Minnesota . There he took over from Tim Penny on January 3, 1995 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 2007 . There he was a member of a subcommittee of the Agriculture Committee. In the 2006 elections he was defeated by Tim Walz .

Gil Gutknecht is married to Mary Keefe. The couple have three grown children and live in Rochester .
