Dewey Johnson (politician)
Dewey William Johnson (born March 14, 1899 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , † September 18, 1941 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the state of Minnesota in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Dewey Johnson attended the public schools in his home country and then studied at the University of Minnesota . He then continued his education with a law degree at the William Mitchell College of Law , which was then called the YMCA LAW School . He later worked in the insurance industry. At that time he also began a political career as a member of the Farmer Labor Party .
Johnson was a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1929 to 1935 ; In 1934 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress . He was an Insurance Commissioner and Fire Inspector for the Minnesota State Government in 1935 and 1936. In the 1936 congressional election, Johnson was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Minnesota , where he succeeded Theodore Christianson on January 3, 1937 . Since he was not confirmed in 1938, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1939. In 1940 he applied again unsuccessfully to return to the US House of Representatives.
In the aftermath of his retirement from Congress, Dewey Johnson returned to the insurance industry. He also ran a dealership in radio sets. He died on September 18, 1941 in his hometown of Minneapolis.
