Juan Alberto Peña Lebrón

Juan Alberto Peña Lebrón (born June 23, 1930 in Luperón , Puerto Plata ) is a Dominican poet and lawyer.

Peña Lebrón attended primary school in Imbert and secondary school in Santo Domingo and was a student of Andrés Avelino and Pedro Mir as a scholarship holder at the Escuela Normal de Varones . He received his doctorate in law in 1954 and became a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University "Mater et Magistra" in Santo Domingo. From 1955 he worked as a lawyer, in 1956 he became a judge ( Juez de Instrucción ) in the Espaillat district.

In 1948 María Ugarte made him known as a poet in her column Colaboración Wscolar ; From the authors presented in this column, the group of writers of the Generación del 48 emerged. Three of his poems also appeared in the Cuadernos Dominicanos de Cultura , Trujillos Partido Dominicano's magazine , in 1949. Further poems appeared in anthologies such as the Antología mayor de la literatura dominicana by Manuel Rueda and Generación del 48 by Lupo Hernández Rueda . In 1953 he published the volume of poetry Órbita inviolable with a foreword by Máximo Avilés Blonda . From 1964 to 1966 he was co-director of the Órbita inviolable magazine .

Peña Lebrón was also active in other writing groups, such as the Grupo de Escritores del Cibao (with José Enrique García , Rafael Castillo , Pedro José Gris ), the Ateneo de Moca (with Bruno Rosario Candelier , Pedro Pompeyo Rosario and Sally Rodríguez ) of the Grupo de Escritores de Salcedo (with Pedro Camilo and Emelda Ramos ), the Grupo de Escritores de San Francisco de Macorís (with Héctor Amarante , Cayo Claudio Espinal and Orlando Morel ) and the Grupo de Escritoresde Pimentel (with Manuel Mora Serrano , Francisco Nolasco Cordero and Elpidio Guillén Peña ). In 2015 he was honored by the Senate Department of the Espaillat Province and the Academia Dominicana de la Lengua for his services as a writer, founding member of the Generación del 48 and lawyer .
