The Petrel ( German  Petrel ) is a deep - research vessel of the late Microsoft -Mitbegründers Paul Allen . The ship is known for its search for lost wrecks .

history

The ship was originally built as underwater work ship ( English Subsea construction vessel built), from the Norwegian shipyard on 23 April 2003 Vard Brattvåg as Seaway Petrel delivered. Before the ship was acquired by Paul Allen in 2016, it was last in service as Seven Petrel for Subsea 7 .

commitment

After being converted into a deep-sea research ship, the Petrel is the only privately operated ship of its kind that can research up to 6000 m water depth . The main task consists of locating historical wrecks and researching the marine ecosystem . In addition to the latest underwater technology, the Petrel is also equipped with an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle and a Remotely Operated Vehicle .
